  • Alan Chapell

    Outside Counsel Privacy Adviser

    Alan Chapell has worked with dozens of premium adtech and martech companies as an outside counsel and privacy advisor. Alan began his career at a boutique direct marketing agency in Connecticut. In 1996, he founded the privacy program at Jupiter Research, an Internet research firm. After, Alan helped develop DoubleClick’s research product suite and founded Chapell & Associates in October of 2003.

Since 2000, Ken has served in a variety of high-profile roles in the digital advertising landscape: as a regulator, General Counsel and Chief Privacy Officer, and currently as outside counsel to numerous NAI members and other web-based, mobile, and data services companies.

Most recently, he served as Assistant General Counsel at the Interactive Advertising Bureau (IAB), where he played a pivotal role in coordinating with stakeholders across the digital advertising industry to develop state law compliance frameworks and strategies.

    Elizabeth, named a “Top Lobbyist” by The Hill, has a 30-year career in Washington. She held senior roles on Capitol Hill for over a decade, led government relations for top tech and entertainment companies, and has consulted for companies, trade associations, and non-profits. An expert in issue campaigns and industry coalitions, she delivers results by combining deep policy knowledge with a strong network. Elizabeth previously led legislative work for Rep. Bob Goodlatte, served as press secretary for the House Energy and Commerce Committee, and managed public policy at Disney and AOL, where she helped navigate the AOL-Time Warner merger.

    As President & CEO of the NAI, Leigh Freund leads the organization’s growth and helps set their agenda and strategic priorities. Leigh joined the NAI in 2015 after an 11-year career at AOL Inc., where she served as Vice President & Chief Counsel for Global Public Policy. Leigh is a passionate believer in firm self-regulation.

    Gary provides direction to clients engaging in new technologies. His deep knowledge of privacy and data security issues makes him a sought-after counselor to companies in the technology, e-commerce, financial services and employment sectors as well.

    Much of Gary’s time is spent staying current in this fast-paced environment. Whether through his representation of key industry clients, his active involvement in trade associations or his recognized thought leadership, he is deeply immersed in the issues facing tech-forward companies. He co-leads a team focused on the CCPA, GDPR, and other enacted and pending state and federal legislation, as well as self-regulatory regimes.

David is a veteran of IT and public affairs, with extensive experience representing technology companies before the United States Congress, federal regulatory agencies, and state legislatures.

  • Tracy Shapiro

    Partner, Privacy & Cybersecurity Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati

    Tracy is a partner in Wilson Sonsini’s San Francisco office, where she advises on data privacy issues and defends companies in government investigations. Tracy previously worked as attorney at the FTC in Washington DC, where she brought enforcement actions related to online advertising and consumer privacy; helped create principles for industry self-regulation; and led the FTC’s first enforcement action involving targeted advertising. After her government service, Tracy worked as in-house advertising and privacy counsel for a large technology company.
